Tuberculosis

According to the World Health Organization, tuberculosis is the second leading infectious killer worldwide after COVID-19

tuberculosis exam

USCIS requires that all green card applicants and parolees two years of age and older are screened for tuberculosis via a special blood test called IGRA. Any patients whose test result is “positive” must undergo a chest x-ray to confirm whether they have the latent or active form of tuberculosis.

Gateway Immigration offers standalone tuberculosis testing for parolee applicants for $100 with results ready in just three days. For status adjuster/green card applicants, tuberculosis testing is included in the cost of their immigration medical examination.

Latent Tuberculosis

Did you know that individuals can carry tuberculosis-causing bacteria in their lungs without showing any signs or symptoms? This is called “Latent Tuberculosis” or LTBI.

People with LTBI are not contagious and will not experience any adverse symptoms; however, 5-10% of people diagnosed with LTBI will eventually develop active tuberculosis, a potentially life-threatening disease.

Through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Gateway Medical helps immigrants with LTBI receive free antibiotic treatment so that they never develop active tuberculosis in the future.
